Nestled in the acacia woodland on the edge of the escarpment overlooking the plains of the south-western Serengeti National Park, one of the most famous parks in the world, and host to the largest and most spectacular annual migration of the wildebeest.

The rooms are decorated in an intriguing, charming Swahili style, with an impressively vast main reception hall that will, it has been rumoured, have a glass fronted atrium with views out over the large pool to the plains beyond.

The general atmosphere is one of colourful comfort over homogenised style, with good views from the restaurant and the service is good with the restaurant providing an exceptionally varied range of local foods.

Serengeti Sopa – Our view

The Serengeti Sopa is a large hotel. Not that this is necessarily a bad thing and the hotel certainly has its following with both the larger group tours and families. However, for the smaller and more intimate trip, while it has a good location set away from the busiest areas of this central area, it can feel too busy. For my money, while the Serena has yet to have a face lift, they have thought slightly more about the lay out of the hotel and, as such, if you are looking for a larger hotel set in an area with year round reliable game (and the Migration from around June until the end of July) then the Serena may be a wiser option.
